A range of machine-based systems trained on large volumes of data, with varying levels of autonomy, designed to that can, for a given set of human-defined objectives, make predictions, recommendations and/or determinations influencing physical or virtual environments domains. Artificial intelligence systems use machine and human-based inputs to (A) perceive interpret real and/or and virtual environments; (B) abstract such outputs into models through analysis in an automated manner; and (C) use model inference to formulate options for information or action. The term shall apply to all current or future technology consistent with this definition, regardless of name.

(3) Suggest a broader alternative describing a machine-based system that performs tasks commonly associated with human intelligence. (5) Consider whether that principle belongs in a preamble or document-wide section rather than attached to a single entry. (6) Noted that the entry is an umbrella term across industries rather than a statement of capability. (7) Reference to acountabilitywas carried to the standards discussion.
