Pre-Publication V2. Any execution of a movement or vocal sequence.
RECOMMEND MOVE TO STANDARDS: Physically, includes, but is not limited to, acting, dancing, stuntwork, athletic displays, playing instruments, mimicking another individual’s movement likeness, and fulfilling a request to perform a basic action such as walking, breathing, or turning one’s head. Vocally, this includes singing, voice acting, humming, executing an accent, and speaking, breathing, or fulfilling a request to audible audibly utter any sound whatsoever.
Deliberation Summary:
(1) Consider if the term is meant to distinguish human performance from output generated by a system, noting that as drafted it could be read to cover the performance of a generated figure. (2) Analogy for context using a puppet, in that a system may sing or dance when driven by a person without itself being a singer or a dancer, retaining the word performance to keep the human contribution in view against removing it from any AI context; reserving the verb for people would require a corresponding decision about related verbs such as act, dance, and sing, or a new term. (3) Notation that any movement or vocal sound is itself a performance rather than mere motion, that ordinary actions such as a natural walk or a tone of voice are among the hardest to execute, and characterized the separation of motion from performance as a distinction that operates to reduce what performers are paid.
